Lika Shatrov – Whistle While You Work

I don’t often feel bad for models, but Lika’s self esteem must have dropped considerably during our shoot. See when we were out shooting on the streets of Chicago, cars kept driving by and whistling at me or yelling other things like “Hey sexy!” I felt so bad that at one point I even apologized to her and explained that this doesn’t typically happen. Maybe it was me, maybe it was the camera, or perhaps all my lighting gear. In any case, what’s great about working with Lika was that she actually didn’t have a tremendous amount of experience posing. I enjoy the challenge of going the full A-Z route of not only conceptualizing the image but to make the posing corrections when I catch something subtle that needs to change. Working with solid and experienced models is great, but a lot more often I’m working with people who just want some images of themselves and aren’t looking to become the next top model.

One shot that I’ll continue to work on is something like the highway shot below (#8). Notice anything in it? Maybe the lack of cars? I’ll give you a hint, yes there were cars going by in both directions and no I did not Photoshop them out 🙂 So overall it was a good time. Don’t let her sexy and serious look fool you…in between frames Lika was all smiles and laughing. I’m pretty sure she was laughing at me and some of my cheesy jokes, but it’s all good. If you’ve read all the way up to this point, then you’re one of the few…most folks only look at the images and skip all my jibber jabber. On to the photos!!!
